EMS Leads the Way on Monitoring Methane Emissions

On December 6, 2022, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published proposed (draft) supplemental rulemaking regarding methane and VOC emissions from the oil and natural gas industry. The proposal includes:

• 40 CFR 60 Subpart OOOOb — Standards of Performance for Crude Oil and Natural Gas Facilities for which construction, modification, or reconstruction commenced after November 15, 2021.
• 40 CFR 60 Subpart OOOOc — Emissions Guidelines for Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Existing Crude Oil and Natural Gas Facilities.

As of June 2023, Environmental Management Services, Inc. (EMS) has committed to help its clients comply with the proposed rule requirements for quantification of methane emissions by equipping our field team with a SEMTECH Hi-Flow 2 Sampler. The Hi-Flow 2 is capable of reliably quantifying methane emissions within all OOOOb tolerances across a complete range of flows and concentrations.

EMS is currently using this new technology to rapidly and efficiently monitor methane emissions on multiple oil and gas well sites in Mississippi, and is available to assist oil and gas operators in Mississippi and the surrounding area.
